a thing that has been bugging me is that the Utah Jazz appear to be using a font in their marketing materials that is at least notionally based on the proportions and diagonal blocks of MegaZeux, the DOS EGA text mode shareware game (my recreation in MegaZeux on the left, original on the right). and I don't know what to make of this
(I had to add a handful of custom characters to the default MegaZeux character set to get it to match, but it's extremely close? I assume some type designer played MegaZeux as a kid and used it as the basis for designing a font, and then the Utah Jazz marketing person found it and thought it was neat. still, a very strange confluence of two intense childhood interests of mine)
@aparrish I was gonna say it reminds me of a fontstruct font but the proportions aren't what you'd normally see...
@cambrian_era oh yeah that's a good point, it could be fontstruct. hmm. but you can't deny that it has a certain indelible megazeux feel to it!
@aparrish my guess is that the underpaid junior designer making these things did a search for free fonts and just picked one they liked :)
@aparrish they've got banners with this branding up all around downtown (in salt lake) and i think it's a bizarre design choice for marketing basketball. looks very weird to me overlaid on pictures of sports boys!
@aparrish have you thought about asking them? Or would be fun to learn that they did, I think?
By the way, I happened to click on your profile and noticed that you've posted exactly 11111 messages. Sorry for asking you to reply and this mess up the number
