@jrc03c @darius I honestly can't read it as anything else than this

CS4 no spoilers

@jrc03c trails of cold steel 4, an rpg

CS4 no spoilers

@darius Still in Act 2 on August 26 over here! I’ve just finished talking to everyone at that big party. Excited for real stuff to start happening soon, instead of spending all my time “proving the strength of my convictions” or whatever by sparring with people already on my side 😛

CS4 no spoilers

@danbruno ha yeah. Act 3 will kick off with some very real stuff!

CS4 no spoilers

@darius Stayed up waaaay too late finishing act 2. “I’m already at the end of this dungeon, how much longer could it be?” 😅

CS4 no spoilers

@danbruno finished it! Minus the bonus cutscene you get for 100 percenting it which I definitely just looked up on YouTube, incredible stuff

CS4 no spoilers

@darius Whoa, congrats! I think I’ll be a while yet, I’m trying to be as completionist as I can and haven’t been playing as much as I’d like. Still near the beginning of act 3

CS4 no spoilers

@danbruno let me know when you finish the trial at the start of act 3 with the huge reveals at the end

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius Oh I did that one last night! With all the Driechels stuff after the Roselia fight?

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno yeah! And all the roselia stuff generally. And reinford, and george, etc. I was frankly shocked that they would reveal so much in one go

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius Yeah there was a lot to process there! George's story is about what I expected but everyone else was 👀

I'm most curious about Lianne/Arianrhod at the moment, I still don't feel like I have a handle on her

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno yeah the fact that she was like.... watching over rean from babyhood is wild

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius yeah what the heck! Also I'd forgotten that she showed up for a split second in CS1, at the end of the castle over by Legram. Creeper

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno that was one of the "uh shit I need to play the first 5 games now" moments for me

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius For sure. Speaking of which, I can't even imagine jumping into CS4 without having all of that in your head, hah. It's so thick with callbacks that it must be unintelligible. Act 2 in particular felt like it was full of conversations like:

"Have you heard from A and B recently?"

"No. Not from C, D, or E, either."

"Right…I'm worried about F, and G too of course, but they're probably fine…"

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno by the way someone referred to Duvalie as the best character in CS4 and I have to agree.

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius Doing an AOE heal and hearing two people say "thanks!" and one say "I'M PERFECTLY FINE WITHOUT YOUR HELP" is the greatest shit

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno the person whose comment I was reading on reddit somewhere made the point that basically all the main characters have figured out their basic growth stuff by game 4 (or 9, heh) so Duvalie is a nice change as someone who has a bunch of internalized shit she still needs to get over

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@darius Yeah that feels like a big drawback of this approach. Some of the personal stakes (for Old Class VII in particular) are pretty stale by now—until something actually gets resolved, I don't know that I need Xeno and Leo to tell Fie that "she's grown" again. Duvalie feels fresh by comparison. I have enough affection for the cast that I can overlook how thin some of them feel here, but it definitely feels like the story is getting away from them a little

CS4 (spoilers now!)

@danbruno yeah I found myself ignoring old class vii to a degree that I never would have guessed. I think the new class and the other supplemental characters are just more interesting at this point! It's kind of like stuff with Joshua in any of the games after SC: he was very interesting, then it all got resolved, now he is just some generic big brother type guy. Which is fine but it means I don't care about him so much anymore
