(It's supported this for a long time but I'm late to the party.)
The single biggest pain for me running a small Mastodon/Hometown instance is running Elasticsearch alongside it. I was wondering: has anyone looked into either 1) supporting postgres for text search on Mastodon, 2) providing an API frontend for postgres that mimicks the Elasticsearch API?
@darius there was a patch a few years back that would make mastodon use postgres for full text search and eugen vetoed it because he claimed that updating two completely separate databases is more efficient than updating a single additional index
@ben ................. oh. I'm trying to dig up the patch to take a look at it. A cursory search of PRs on the main repo doesn't return anything, would appreciate any pointers if you remember anything!
