I love the summer solstice, but I also am acutely aware that it means the days get shorter for the next 6 months :(((

@t54r4n1 @darius

It's 90 in Oakland today, so I'm glad the day star is going, albeit slowly, into a time out. 😀

@t54r4n1 @darius this sets me up for sliding into late summer / fall like "this is the best time!" while completely ignoring how we're all hurtling towards the cliff of "dark before you get off work".

The worst, because shorter days but it'll still get hotter.

Takes a while for this soggy rock to heat up even just this part.

@darius I had the reverse discussion a few years ago with someone. I was saying how much I liked the winter solstice and he was talking about it being so depressing since the day was so short. "Exactly. They only get longer from here."

@darius at the autumnal equinox you can say "the rate at which the days are getting shorter has slowed"

@jleedev @darius at the autumnal equinox, the days are at maximum shorteningness

St Petersburg is famous for its white nights in summer which are around right now, but what no one mentions is that there also are black days in winter.

@darius if we have to have seasons I would settle for an imaginary middle ground where the cycles light/heath would be mixed, so days would be the shortest when hottest during the year and longest when colder. would make both summer and winter way easier for me

@darius only ‘up there’ … ‘down here’ it’s gonna get better.
