What's your favorite kind of pie?

@makingarecord a good one!

Local pie shop makes a grapefruit custard pie that is amazing

@ranjit wow! What's it called? I might have occasion to be in that area at some point

@makingarecord Four and Twenty Blackbirds! They don't always have grapefruit pie but they'll always have something good.

Ah shit maybe i should go there this afternoon.

@ranjit I've been there! They had a lemon chess pie that was EXTREMELY good

@ranjit @makingarecord I had a really incredible grapefruit custard dessert last month, I was really blown away by how unexpectedly well it worked

@darius @makingarecord was it also an incredible psychedelic fluorescent pale pink color like the filling of this pie?

@ranjit @makingarecord no it was more of a white grapefruit color. very very very pale pink-yellow

@makingarecord !!! had first blueberry pie like last year. I feel like I'm partial to the sweet potato / pecan hybrid

@jim mmm I don't think I've ever had that hybrid but it sounds very good

@makingarecord I feel like I had that at Tupelo in Cambridge, with bourbon ice cream. It's a different pie paradigm for sure

@christa I don't think I've ever had this! But it sounds like my kind of thing from the google results

@makingarecord I think it’s hyper local to indiana and maybe western ohio, though they have something similar made with maple sugar in quebec and it’s like chess pies without any fruit. I grew up with it because the local burger chain (kewpee) has it year round.

@christa wait did you grow up in Lima, Ohio?? I went there for work a lot when I lived in Columbus, but I never made it to Kewpee.

@makingarecord oh wow, I did!! I don't really run into folks who know it?

if you ever make it back, kewpee is great if you eat meat or fish. if you don't, still great for pie & aesthetics! the downtown location still has a car turnaround from the 1930s

@christa I drove by it probably half a dozen times on the way to court in Lima and kept thinking "wow I have to go there next time I'm in town!" Never did, sadly.

@makingarecord were you working out of the courthouse downtown? I work in criminal justice now (I think we may work on similar things?), but am still pretty ignorant of the justice system where I grew up.

@christa I was a public defender working on appeals, so I visited both the appellate court and the county court. Allen County's criminal system was pretty typical of Ohio's non-extremely-populated counties

pie pie. you take a bite and there's another, smaller pie inside.

there's a stack limit here - there are only so many pies you can get into a pie before you run out of space.
