#inktober Day 3!
Messed around with some of my colored pens and some nicer paper courtesy of @janelastname!
The last pic is a logic error that looked rad. It would destroy any pen and paper I tried to print it on, so it is presented only in screenshot form.
(reposting because I forgot I can set things to be federated)
#inktober day 5 on the pen plotter!
Everybody gets to do some sine wave shapes on the plotter, right? They're so satisfying!
Day 7 of #inktober on the plotter!
Messing with line thickness. I keep filling out the page when I should really leave more white space.
It's hard making the transition from my demo display on the screen to how it'll look on an actual page!
Day 8 of #inktober on the plotter!
I got about 3 hours into a different plot before realizing that I hated it so I simplified it and got this.
Noise patterns look so good on the plotter. It feels like cheating!
Day 10 of #inkotober on the plotter!
Knot pattern with distortion and frayed edges.
There are some minor errors I'd love to fix, but this print took 4.5 hours so I don't think it's going to happen today.
Day 11 of #inkotber on the plotter!
Messing around with some circle fills. I couldn't make up my mind so I tried a few prints.
This one was fun because it spits out really different compositions every time I run it.
Day 12 of #inktober on the plotter!
We got come concentric circles and they're all out of phase! Just a quick one today because I have to get ready to teach.
Day 13 of #inktober on the plotter!
Playing with noise fields again (they're so fun).
Busted out the metallic pens and the big 18"x12" paper that just about takes up the whole canvas bed.
Day 14 of #inkotober on the plotter!
Variation on yesterday's noise field. Gold ink on large black paper. Feels ~fancy~
Day 15 of #inkotober on the plotter!
Last night I wrote up some tools for my gcode library to help with occlusion. Today I had some fun with it by making a Thumper monster.
Day 16 of #inkotber on the plotter!
The code pops out a new, solvable maze every time it's fun, which is probably overkill, but programmers gonna over-program.
Day 17 of #inktober on the plotter!
I tried to use simple particle interaction to define some blobby shapes and draw a map. It kinda works, but was overkill. Also it looks like a fried egg.
Day 18 of #inktober on the plotter!
Facts & Figures
I'm really happy with this one and may do a monochrome print later today! All of the graph values change every time the code is run.
It amuses me to come full circle with the plotter. It's a device that was initially intended to print charts and which was then coopted by artists. Now I'm using it to print charts that don't mean anything.
Day 19 of #inktober on the plotter
Curves and noise to generate moirés.
I also added bezier curve support to my gcode library!
Day 21 of #inktober on the plotter
Two takes on some bezier shapes. Thought I would like the multicolor one more, but I think I prefer the black version.
Day 22 of #inktober on the plotter
I adore the path finding logic of pacman and I've been working with it a bit for an upcoming project that seemed ripe for plotting!
Here's the level 1 maze, extruded to be made of a few layers, with the paths of pac-man and the ghosts traced out.
The ghost logic is identical to the original with the exception of adding a 3rd dimension (a feature the original rules allow for very easily). In this version Pac-man just goes for the nearest pellet.
Day 23 of #inktober on the plotter!
I like the vibe on this one, but there are some technical aspects of it that bug me.
Day 24 of #inktober on the plotter!
Very happy with the texture from the pen starting and stopping on the long strokes.
Day 25 of #inktober on the plotter!
Some offset triangles.
Some printing errors along the top which are annoying me, but can't go wrong with a little moire
Day 27 of #Inktober on the plotter!
Very happy with this one! I'm always really enamored with plotter prints that seem to simultaneously have order and noise. My attempt at trying to hit something like that.
Day 29 of #inktober on the plotter!
The print got messed up on the final color and only got halfway through, but honestly it was already getting kinda busy so I think it was a blessing.
Day 30 of #inktober on the plotter
Plotted this a few days ago. I like the vibe of this one, but it feels a bit muddy. I'd like to try this with some colors that contrast a bit more, but I'm still recovering from surgery and don't want to hunch over the plotter. Something to come back to.
Day 31 of #inktober on the plotter!
I might be recovering from surgery, but I wasn't going to miss the last day of the month.
Coded this one up yesterday and printed it today.
I've had such a blast making these and it's been so lovely that people have reached out about wanting to own some of them. I think I'll be setting up a little shop soon!
