Seeing some posts questioning the reporting around on Twitter and whether Elon is just playing 4D-chess with journalist trying to find their sources. Do y'all not think that the people reporting on these stories aren't seasoned journalists who are well aware of the games narcissists like Elon might play? Elon is not the only bad apple leader in Tech. Give these journalists some credit for how to confirm a story and protect their sources.
@soypunk idk, it's because I know a lot of these journalists personally and have followed their work for a long time that I am extremely disappointed in the quality of (some of) the reporting I'm seeing
@soypunk otoh maybe that is not what you're talking about specifically! I don't think any of these journalists are naively accepting information from musk but I *do* think they are still giving him way, way too much benefit of the doubt generally (for the most part. some are doing a good job)
@darius that's 100% fair too!
I've just seen some folks suggesting that reporters are falling for "canary trap" type stuff and I think that reporters I've been following on this are sharp enough to have considered that angle when working on verification of leaked emails/slacks/etc. (sadly a lot of twitter reporting has to be done on background atm so as to not jeopardize severance packages. background reporting in tech is for sure fraught with problems and makes me feel icky)
